I feel the need to preach.
Personally, I am looking forward to having a health care plan. We have to pay around $1100/month for private insurance for the 3 of us!!! In Nevada, state workers do not contribute to social security. We have PERS -Public Employees Retirement System, so I do not get Medicare. Even though I qualified for and am receiving DISABILITY retirement benefits, I have been denied health benefits--because I have a pre-existing condition !! So my retirement funds go to pay for our insurance with just a little left over. If I were single, I'd be destitute--a greater burden on the taxpayers than the cost of providing a health plan. And just think--that $1100 per month we pay to insurance companies could be going into the economy -or into our savings.
Without an enormous amount in savings, we would be more dependent on the government assistance in our old age. Taxpayers paying for That!!
SO..... All I know is that the system is screwed up!!
People who have insurance provided through their employers have no empathy or understanding for the rest of us. And now with unemployment being so high (everywhere but Oklahoma, I guess), the health care situation is out of control.
My son's bills so far for his motorcycle accident is close to $55,000 !!! Thank God we pay for private insurance--we are going to be liable for only $3000 max. Without that insurance, we would have not been able to pay. Kevin, being 21, is actually legally responsible. His credit would have been ruined--having to file bankruptcy-- and again, the taxpayers would be shelling out the $$$ for his bills.
And further, his ruined credit would negatively affect the overall economy. It goes on and on.
I think this transcends political party lines. The tax money is being shelled out both ways. And these insurance company executives are sitting pretty with their multi-million dollar salaries, bonuses, and lifestyles.
I feel so much better now. Maybe if I do this more often, my health will improve and I can drop one of my 12 medications.

Hawaii
Is it Really possible NOT to have a good time in Hawaii???
ALOHA!
ur 1st day in Waikiki was really fun! We stayed in a condo on the beach, and had wonderful ocean views from the lanai.Kevin took surfing lessons and rode the waves for about 4 hours. Rob & I pretty much stayed under the umbrella, and played around in the water. Kevin was so stoked when he got back--but later on he began to feel the effects of the terrible sunburn he got!
He had HUGE blisters on the backs of his legs. I really felt like he needed a doctor's care. He was in so much pain, bless his heart, that the rest of his vacation was really ruined. He could barely walk! or sleep comfortably. So he spent a lot of time under the air conditioner. But at least he can tell everyone that he went surfing!
Rob & he were already sunburned from their L.A. trip--then Robert caught a nasty head cold. That, along with the sunburns, made us cancel our snorkeling trip--which I REALLY wanted to do. Rob got sicker and sicker, so he & Kevin weren't able to do much of anything!!!! Can you imagine being bored in Hawaii? I was bored and the boys were sick.
Robert & I did go to the Polynesian Cultural Center, which was a 10-hour day, including the bus ride. It was o.k. and the luau was good. The show was fantastic. I didn't know it, but it is run by the Mormon church. The kids work there for a free education at the BYU campus there.
Oh, this all happened as the eye of a hurricane was heading toward us, and strengthening.Actually, nothing like a hurricane occurred whatsoever. a few light showers and a strong breeze was about it. But we were prepared to evacuate if necessary. Stupid us.-bought ponchos and extra food and water.--which of course we couldn't take on the plane with us because of Homeland Security. Don't even get me started on THAT.
Another highlight was a dinner cruise, which was pretty cool, since I had never been on a ship before.
Here's another highlight of our trip: on our last day, we had to check out by noon, but our flight didn't leave until 9:00 pm. So we rode the city bus to a movie theater! FUN!
We walked for miles--did lots of shopping--just like people do here in Las Vegas! -went to the Hard Rock and got t-shirts--the tourist things to do. The 7-11 convention wasn't great at all, and really, no one missed us when we skipped out on stuff. Everyone wants the convention to be here again this year. whooopeee!
We got home about 7 in the morning. That night I went to bed at 8 and didn't wake up until noon the next day! I have never slept that long in my life.
If you're thinking of going to Hawaii--I would suggest going in the fall or winter. The last time we went, the temp/humidity was great, and it wasn't nearly so crowded. Maui was quiet, so we will probably go there again, as well as the Big Island.
So anyway, mahalo for reading my blog! And ALOHA!

I decided that occasionally there actually are things in our life that are interesting, and thought I'd join in the family Blog experience.
Robert & Kevin got home yesterday from spending several days in L.A. attending the X-games. I think Rob should be elected Dad of the Year!
They came home with lots of autographs and posters and pictures, and autographed skate decks, along with some serious sunburn from time spent at Hermosa Beach.
Meanwhile, I sat at home --enjoyed the quiet for a couple of days--then our satellite t.v. went out! Talk about quiet! Thank goodness for Netflix--Instant movie downloads for the computer. So the laptop and I became close friends!
I plan to post pictures as soon as I get them uploaded.
Oh-we're going to Hawaii on Thursday, and I'm sure I'll include some bathing beauty pics!!!
Kevin begins the College of Southern Nevada soon after our trip. He's excited enough that he enrolled full-time! We're proud of him! I'll keep you posted!
